The Rink at Brookfield Place is a seasonal outdoor ice skating venue located on the Hudson River waterfront in Lower Manhattan’s Battery Park City. Known for its picturesque skyline views and proximity to the One World Trade Center, it offers one of New York City’s most scenic winter recreation experiences. And frankly, if you really want to go ice-skating in Manhattan during your one-week visit, I would either go there, or central park. Because Rockefeller center (while it has a nice tree) is crowded, expensive, and the ice is bumpy.
Setting and Experience Opened each winter on the plaza of Brookfield Place (New York City), the rink provides a boutique skating environment distinct from larger midtown venues. Guests skate along the river’s edge with views of the Hudson River and the surrounding skyscrapers. The site also features easy access to the indoor food hall Hudson Eats, providing dining and warm-up options steps from the ice. nyctourism.com
Programs and Instruction The rink hosts public sessions, private lessons, and specialty programs led by former U.S. Olympic ice dancers Melissa Gregory and Denis Petukhov. Lessons include one-on-one and semi-private instruction, as well as group skating and hockey fundamentals for children and adults. therinkatbrookfieldplace.net
Events and Community Use Beyond daily skating, The Rink at Brookfield Place accommodates corporate team-building events, birthday celebrations, romantic evenings, and school outings. Its event programming emphasizes a festive, community-centered atmosphere during the winter months. mapquest.com
Notability Covering roughly 7,000 square feet, the rink has become a hallmark of downtown Manhattan’s winter scene, complementing Brookfield Place’s art installations and retail spaces. It operates seasonally, typically from November through early March, weather permitting.
