SUMMARY:Ice Skating at Rockefeller Center
DESCRIPTION:If you want to experience something that many New Yorkers shy away from (due to crowds!) go to the Rockefeller Plaza ice skating ring.  Almost everyone loves it\, and if you are here during the holidays\, it’s a fun (but crowded) thing to do. (IMHO)  It’s located right below the iconic tree\, in Rockefeller Plaza between 49th & 50th Streets (Fifth Avenue side) in Midtown Manhattan\, New York\, NY 10020. \nSeason / Dates \n\nThe 2025 season  opens in October\nTypically\, the season extends through winter (often into early spring)\, though exact closing date may vary each year.\n\nCosts & Tickets \n\nGeneral admission tickets start at approx US $22 (or so) for adults for less busy times.\nChildren ages 5 & under start around US $12 in 2025.\nSkate rentals are not included in the basic ticket price; rental is an additional ~$12.\nPrices vary significantly depending on date/time (peak holiday evenings cost much more). For example general admission may range up to ~$100+ on busiest evenings.\nVIP/“Après Skate” packages (heated lounge\, private chalet) also available at higher price tiers ($190+ up to ~$570 for special packages) for groups/premium experience.\n\nKey Notes / Tips \n\nTickets must be reserved ahead of time online. Advance booking is recommended.\nSessions are timed (e.g.\, 60 minutes or a defined time slot). After your time is up you must leave the ice.\nBecause of the location and iconic setting (under the tree\, Midtown)\, it is on the smaller side compared to larger rinks\, and the price reflects the “experience”. Bring your own skates if you have them (might save the rental fee) For less busy times & lower cost: early morning or weekday morning slots are generally cheaper.

SUMMARY:Ice Skating at Brookfield Place
DESCRIPTION:The Rink at Brookfield Place is a seasonal outdoor ice skating venue located on the Hudson River waterfront in Lower Manhattan’s Battery Park City. Known for its picturesque skyline views and proximity to the One World Trade Center\, it offers one of New York City’s most scenic winter recreation experiences. And frankly\, if you really want to go ice-skating in Manhattan during your one-week visit\, I would either go there\, or central park. Because Rockefeller center (while it has a nice tree) is crowded\, expensive\, and the ice is bumpy. \nSetting and Experience\nOpened each winter on the plaza of Brookfield Place (New York City)\, the rink provides a boutique skating environment distinct from larger midtown venues. Guests skate along the river’s edge with views of the Hudson River and the surrounding skyscrapers. The site also features easy access to the indoor food hall Hudson Eats\, providing dining and warm-up options steps from the ice.\nnyctourism.com \nPrograms and Instruction\nThe rink hosts public sessions\, private lessons\, and specialty programs led by former U.S. Olympic ice dancers Melissa Gregory and Denis Petukhov. Lessons include one-on-one and semi-private instruction\, as well as group skating and hockey fundamentals for children and adults. \nEvents and Community Use\nBeyond daily skating\, The Rink at Brookfield Place accommodates corporate team-building events\, birthday celebrations\, romantic evenings\, and school outings. Its event programming emphasizes a festive\, community-centered atmosphere during the winter months.\nmapquest.com \nNotability\nCovering roughly 7\,000 square feet\, the rink has become a hallmark of downtown Manhattan’s winter scene\, complementing Brookfield Place’s art installations and retail spaces. It operates seasonally\, typically from November through early March\, weather permitting.

SUMMARY:Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting
DESCRIPTION:The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree Lighting is one of New York City’s most cherished holiday traditions. In 2025\, the ceremony is scheduled for Wednesday\, December 3\, at Rockefeller Plaza between 48th and 51st Streets and Fifth and Sixth Avenues. The event marks the official start of the holiday season in New York\, attracting thousands of visitors from around the world. \nThe tree\, usually a towering Norway spruce\, will be decorated with more than 50\,000 multi-colored LED lights and crowned with a Swarovski crystal star. The lighting ceremony will include live performances by well-known artists and appearances by special guests. The event is free and open to the public\, though space is limited and crowds begin to gather early in the afternoon. \nThe tree lighting typically takes place around 9:30 to 10:00 p.m.\, following several hours of music and entertainment. After the ceremony\, the tree remains lit daily from early morning until midnight through early January\, creating one of the city’s most iconic backdrops for holiday photos and ice skating at the Rockefeller Center rink. \nVisitors are encouraged to arrive early\, dress warmly\, and plan for large crowds and street closures in the surrounding area. For those who prefer a calmer experience\, visiting the plaza in the days following the ceremony offers the same festive atmosphere without the heavy crowds. \nThe Rockefeller Center tree lighting continues to represent hope\, joy\, and community—a New York City tradition that has brightened the holidays for more than eight decades

SUMMARY:The Origami Tree Museum of Natural History
DESCRIPTION:This year’s dazzling 13-foot holiday tree\, themed New Beginnings\, celebrates the spectacular variety of species that evolved after an asteroid impact ended the age of dinosaurs some 66 million years ago. Among the more than 1\,000 origami pieces are dinosaurs and other extinct reptiles—pterosaurs that ruled the skies\, mosasaurs and plesiosaurs that roamed the seas\, as well as Triceratops and T. rex\, which walked the Earth during the Cretaceous Period. The tree also includes an array of mammals and insects that evolved after the asteroid impact. \nThese new mammals include ancestors of the Museum’s iconic Blue Whale\, as well as our primate ancestors. Look for birds\, too—dinosaurs living among us today. \nExplore more about the asteroid’s impact on the planet in the Museum’s new exhibition\, Impact: The End of the Age of Dinosaurs. Look also for the spectacular Stegosaurus named Apex in its new home on the fourth floor. \nProduced in partnership with OrigamiUSA\, the Origami Holiday Tree is delightfully decorated with hand-folded paper models created by local\, national\, and international origami artists. Learn more about the making of the Origami Holiday Tree and find out how to make your own origami models!
